Aqui acompanhamos um soldado americano destacado para o assalto às praias da Normandia, regressando a um local onde tinha passado férias alguns anos antes e onde conheceu uma mulher que nunca mais lhe saiu do pensamento.

Tal como no primeiro ciclo, esta não é apenas uma história sobre a guerra. É também uma história sobre relações humanas, o que a torna muito mais credível e próxima do leitor, sem deixar de apresentar um retrato duro e implacável da realidade da guerra.
