💭 My Thoughts:

🇵🇹 Já começa a ser redundante elogiar Jeff Lemire e o seu trabalho, mas a verdade é que estamos perante um escritor verdadeiramente notável.

Para mim, a principal marca de um bom escritor é a capacidade de nos fazer esquecer que estamos a ler — e é precisamente isso que Lemire consegue. Ficamos tão profundamente imersos na narrativa que, por momentos, deixamos de sentir o acto da leitura e passamos a habitar aquele mundo, a viver os acontecimentos ao lado das personagens. Isto só é possível graças a uma escrita muito sólida, fluída e cuidadosamente encadeada, que nunca quebra a imersão do leitor.

A acompanhar Lemire está Jock, um artista extremamente competente, cuja arte se revela igualmente marcante e decisiva para reforçar essa imersão na história.

No geral, adorei este volume. Li-o do início ao fim de uma só vez — algo que não é habitual para mim, já que costumo alternar leituras —, o que, por si só, demonstra o quão envolvido fiquei com a narrativa.

Muito bom. Vou avançar de imediato para o volume seguinte, que encerra esta história.

🇬🇧 I am already tired of praising Jeff Lemire and his work, but the truth is that he is a truly remarkable writer.

For me, the main hallmark of a good writer is the ability to make us forget that we are reading — and that is exactly what Lemire achieves. We become so deeply immersed in the narrative that, for moments, we stop feeling the act of reading and instead inhabit that world, living the events alongside the characters. This is only possible thanks to very strong, fluid writing, with a careful flow of words that never breaks the reader’s immersion.

Alongside Lemire, we also have Jock, a highly competent artist whose work is equally impressive and plays a crucial role in reinforcing the immersion in the story.

Overall, I loved this volume. I devoured it from beginning to end in a single sitting — something that is not normal for me, as I usually alternate between different reads — which, in itself, shows just how absorbed I was by the story.

Very good. I am moving straight on to the next volume, which concludes this story.
