🇵🇹 Pobre Chininkel, que apenas desejava levar uma vida pacata.

Embora seja uma obra de fantasia pura, parece-me claramente inspirada em eventos bíblicos. Há aqui um forte componente de crítica à relação da sociedade com a religião, sem nunca quebrar a essência fantástica que define esta narrativa.

Acompanhamos J’On, um humilde Chininkel apanhado no meio de um conflito que devastou o seu povo. É esse sofrimento que o leva a partir numa aventura após receber um chamamento divino que promete pôr fim a uma guerra longa e brutal.

Mesmo após quase 40 anos, esta obra mantém um argumento apelativo e surpreendentemente atual de Van Hamme, aliado ao traço fabuloso e intemporal de Rosinski.

Uma edição em preto e branco que, na minha opinião, supera a versão colorida, já que as cores — além de envelhecerem a obra — ocultam muitos dos detalhes magníficos da arte de Rosinski.

🇬🇧 Poor Chininkel, who only ever wanted a quiet life.

Although it is a work of pure fantasy, it clearly seems inspired by biblical events. There is a strong element of criticism of society’s relationship with religion, without ever breaking the essential sense of fantasy that defines this story.

We follow J’On, a humble Chininkel caught in the middle of a conflict that has devastated his people. It is this suffering that leads him to embark on an adventure after receiving a divine calling that promises to put an end to this long and brutal war.

Even after almost 40 years, the story still holds a compelling and surprisingly contemporary script by Van Hamme, paired with the fabulous and timeless artwork of Rosinski.

A black-and-white edition that, in my opinion, surpasses the coloured version, as the colours — besides ageing the work — also hide many of the magnificent details in Rosinski’s art.
