💭 My Thoughts:

🇵🇹 O Batman não é uma personagem totalmente virtuosa como o Spider-Man ou o Superman. Em certos momentos, aproxima-se até da fronteira do anti-herói. No entanto, apesar da sua natureza sombria, existe uma regra que partilha com essas duas personagens e que nunca quebra: não matar. Uma decisão pela qual é frequentemente criticado, já que os seus vilões acabam por ter inúmeras oportunidades para voltar a semear o caos e fazer novas vítimas.

Nesta história, esse princípio é levado ao extremo. Batman vê-se confrontado com a decisão de salvar ou não a vida do homem que assassinou os seus pais e que, nesse momento, definiu todo o rumo da sua existência.

Sinceramente, custa-me compreender como alguém consegue salvar a vida da pessoa que matou os seus pais. Uma coisa é recusar matar diretamente; outra, bem diferente, é escolher salvá-la. No entanto, é precisamente isso que Batman faz, e esse gesto demonstra até que ponto leva o seu código moral a sério.

🇬🇧 Batman is not a wholly virtuous character like Spider-Man or Superman. At times, he comes remarkably close to crossing into anti-hero territory. Even so, despite his darker nature, there is one rule he shares with both of them that he never breaks: he does not kill. It’s a principle for which he is often criticised, as it allows his villains countless opportunities to return, spread chaos, and claim more victims.

In this story, that principle is pushed to its absolute limit. Batman is forced to decide whether or not to save the life of the man who murdered his parents and set him on the path that would define the rest of his life.

Personally, I find it difficult to understand how anyone could save the life of the person who killed their parents. Refusing to kill someone is one thing; actively choosing to save them is something entirely different. Yet that is exactly what Batman does, and it perfectly illustrates just how seriously he takes his moral code.
