🇵🇹 Saltei para esta obra sem saber absolutamente nada sobre ela ou sobre os seus autores. O que me chamou a atenção foi a capa. Há algo na sua simplicidade e na poesia do título que nos dá imediatamente as boas-vindas à história, e isso é logo um ponto a destacar.

Acompanhamos Joseph Vaughan desde a infância até à idade adulta. A sua vida é profundamente marcada por uma série de assassinatos de raparigas jovens, algumas das quais conhecia e de quem era próximo. São crimes que o perseguem ao longo dos anos, mesmo quando tudo parece indicar que ficaram para trás.

Joseph nunca consegue permanecer indiferente a estes acontecimentos. Pelo contrário, chega mesmo a organizar grupos de vigilância na tentativa de impedir que os assassinatos continuem. Ao longo de toda a narrativa somos constantemente levados a questionar quem é, ou quem são, os responsáveis por estes crimes, sem que a resposta alguma vez se torne verdadeiramente evidente.

O resultado é uma boa história policial, envolta em mistério e suspense, que certamente irá agradar aos amantes do género.

🇬🇧 I picked up this book knowing absolutely nothing about it or its authors. What first caught my attention was the cover. There’s something about its simplicity and the poetic nature of the title that immediately welcomes you into the story, and that’s worth highlighting from the very beginning.

The story follows Joseph Vaughan from childhood through to adulthood. His life is deeply shaped by a series of murders targeting young girls, some of whom he knew personally and was even close to. These crimes haunt him throughout his life, even when it seems they have finally come to an end.

Joseph is never indifferent to these murders. On the contrary, he even goes as far as organising neighbourhood watch groups in an attempt to prevent more killings. Throughout the novel, we are constantly left wondering who the murderer—or murderers—might be, yet the answer is never made entirely clear.

The result is a compelling crime novel, filled with mystery and suspense, that will certainly appeal to fans of the genre.
