🇵🇹 Jeff Lemire dispensa apresentações. Não é apenas um dos meus autores favoritos; é o autor favorito de inúmeras pessoas e, sem dúvida, um dos melhores da sua geração.

Apesar de já ter lido várias obras ao longo da sua já extensa carreira, ainda há algumas que me faltam descobrir, e esta é uma delas — uma das suas mais recentes.

Tudo aquilo a que Lemire nos habituou está presente aqui: o traço inconfundível, a forma única de narrar e a escrita fluida e envolvente.

A história acompanha Theresa, que regressa à sua aldeia natal para ajudar a mãe enquanto esta enfrenta um cancro. A relação entre as duas está longe de ser perfeita, mas ambas fazem um esforço para se reconectarem. No entanto, o regresso à aldeia traz de volta muitas memórias dolorosas do passado.

A mãe de Theresa é taróloga, algo que Theresa sempre desprezou, considerando-o uma mera charlatanice. Ainda assim, devido à doença da mãe, acaba por ajudá-la a atender os seus clientes, e isso desperta nela poderes cuja existência desconhecia.

Gostei particularmente da forma como Lemire associa cada personagem a cartas do Tarot.

No geral, adorei este primeiro volume e estou muito curioso para descobrir para onde esta história nos irá levar.

🇬🇧 Jeff Lemire needs no introduction. He is not only one of my favourite authors, but also the favourite author of countless readers and undoubtedly one of the finest creators of his generation.

Although I have already read several works throughout his long and prolific career, there are still a few left for me to discover, and this is one of them — one of his most recent works.

Everything that Lemire is known for is present here: his distinctive artwork, his unique storytelling style, and his fluid, engaging writing.

The story follows Theresa as she returns to her hometown to help her mother while she battles cancer. Their relationship is far from ideal, but both are making an effort to reconnect. However, returning home brings back many painful memories from Theresa’s past.

Theresa’s mother is a tarot reader, something Theresa has always looked down on, believing it to be nothing more than a sham. Nevertheless, because of her mother’s illness, she ends up helping her with her clients, and in doing so, awakens powers she never knew she possessed.

I particularly enjoyed the way Lemire associates each character with Tarot cards.

Overall, I loved this first volume and I’m very curious to see where this story will take us next.
