🇵🇹 Já tinha achado o primeiro episódio fabuloso — ao ponto de ter sido uma das minhas leituras do ano em 2024 — mas este conseguiu ainda ultrapassar esse impacto e entra diretamente para as minhas leituras do ano de 2026.

George Lucas é uma autêntica máquina. A quantidade de problemas e responsabilidades com que teve de lidar em simultâneo para concretizar os seus objetivos é simplesmente absurda. Sempre movido pelo objetivo quase utópico de não depender dos manda-chuvas de Hollywood, vê nesta sequela de Star Wars a oportunidade de produzir um filme totalmente financiado por si próprio. No entanto, aquilo que parecia possível transforma-se rapidamente num processo extremamente arriscado, colocando em causa o seu futuro e a sua estabilidade financeira. Quantos teriam coragem de seguir o caminho que ele escolheu?

Este é mais um volume absolutamente fantástico, repleto de detalhes e perspetivas sobre todo o processo de produção de The Empire Strikes Back (O Império Contra-Ataca), um filme que, para muitos, acabou por superar o original — algo raro no caso de sequelas. E perceber que toda a sua produção foi praticamente um inferno torna tudo ainda mais fascinante.

É uma leitura essencial para qualquer fã de Star Wars, mas mesmo quem não for fã encontrará aqui muito para admirar sobre o carácter perseverante de Lucas e sobre a realidade de que, para criar algo verdadeiramente extraordinário, muitas vezes é preciso correr riscos que estão longe de ser seguros.

🇬🇧 I already thought the first episode was fantastic — to the point that it became one of my reads of the year in 2024 — but this one somehow managed to surpass that impact and goes straight onto my list of best reads of 2026.

George Lucas is an absolute force of nature. The amount of problems, decisions, and responsibilities he had to deal with simultaneously in order to achieve his goals is simply absurd. Constantly driven by the almost utopian desire to avoid depending on the Hollywood higher-ups, he saw this sequel to Star Wars as an opportunity to produce a film entirely financed by himself. However, what initially seemed like a dream quickly turns into an incredibly risky process, putting both his future and financial stability on the line. How many people would have had the courage to follow the path he chose?

This is yet another absolutely fantastic volume, packed with fascinating details and perspectives about the entire production process behind The Empire Strikes Back, a film that, for many, ended up surpassing the original — something incredibly rare when it comes to sequels. And realizing that its creation was practically a nightmare only makes the reading experience even more compelling.

It’s an essential work for any Star Wars fan, but even those without a special connection to the saga will find plenty here to admire about Lucas’s perseverance and the reality that creating something truly extraordinary often requires taking risks far beyond what feels safe.
