💭 My Thoughts:

🇵🇹 Diz-se que todos nós temos três versões de nós mesmos: a que mostramos em público, a que reservamos para os mais próximos (como a família) e aquela que permanece oculta — a nossa verdadeira essência, conhecida apenas por nós. Mas há também outra perspetiva: existe uma versão nossa em cada pessoa com quem nos cruzámos ao longo da vida.

Será possível alguém conhecer-nos verdadeiramente? Ou conheceremos nós alguém a 100%? Há quem passe uma vida inteira ao lado de outra pessoa sem nunca a compreender por completo. Talvez porque, no fundo, poucos procuram ir além da superfície. Ou talvez porque isso seja, simplesmente, inalcançável. Chegar ao fim da vida e poder dizer que houve pelo menos uma pessoa que nos conheceu na totalidade do nosso ser… isso sim, seria quase milagroso.

Eu sei — isto não é propriamente uma review. Mas, a este ponto, duvido que alguém precise de uma para decidir se deve ou não ler esta série. O protagonista passa toda a narrativa numa busca incessante: perceber quem é e compreender aqueles que o rodeiam. É precisamente daí que nascem os Homunculi — manifestações dos traumas que carregamos, forças invisíveis que nos moldam sem que os outros as consigam ver… e, por vezes, sem que nós próprios as reconheçamos.

Dominar os Homunculi é, em última análise, confrontar e compreender a natureza humana — é conhecer-nos verdadeiramente.

Homunculus é uma obra extraordinária. Um mangá adulto, exigente, e absolutamente obrigatório, com muito mais a oferecer do que aquilo que revela à superfície.

🇬🇧 It is said that each of us has three versions of ourselves: the one we present in public, the one we show to those closest to us (such as family), and the one that remains hidden — our true essence, known only to ourselves. But there is another perspective as well: a version of us exists within every person who has ever crossed our path.

Is it truly possible for someone to know us completely? Or for us to know someone else 100%? There are people who spend an entire lifetime together without ever fully understanding one another. Perhaps because, deep down, few are willing to go beyond the surface. Or perhaps because that level of understanding is simply unattainable. To reach the end of life and be able to say that at least one person truly knew us in our entirety… that would be something close to a miracle.

I know — this isn’t exactly a review. But at this point, I doubt anyone needs one to decide whether they should read this series. The protagonist spends the entire narrative trying to understand who he is and who the people around him are. That is precisely where the Homunculi come from — manifestations of the traumas we carry, invisible forces that shape us without others being able to see them… and sometimes without us even recognizing them ourselves.

To master the Homunculi is, ultimately, to confront and understand human nature — to truly know oneself.

Homunculus is an extraordinary work. A mature, demanding manga, and absolutely essential reading, with far more depth than what appears on the surface.
