🇵🇹 Muitos poderão ler isto e apressar-se a rotular Kiki como uma galdéria. Na verdade, era alguém profundamente confortável na sua própria pele — uma mulher que não tinha receio de se despir nem de usar o seu corpo em seu benefício. Não o fazia por maldade; limitava-se a jogar com as cartas que tinha. A vida não lhe foi particularmente favorável e, ainda menor de idade, viu-se obrigada a depender de si própria, fazendo o que fosse necessário para sobreviver.

Tinha uma personalidade forte, firme nas suas convicções, e não se deixava arrastar por aquilo em que não acreditava — mesmo quando isso lhe saía caro. Teve vários amantes e, mesmo quando afirmava amar alguém e estar numa relação, parecia haver sempre espaço para outros na sua vida íntima.

Foi ascendendo gradualmente no meio artístico: começou como modelo de escultura, passou pela pintura e acabou por se destacar na fotografia — área onde atingiu maior notoriedade, em grande parte através da sua ligação a Man Ray. Pelo meio, participou também em inúmeros espetáculos de cabaré.

Era, acima de tudo, uma mulher do meio artístico que procurava viver a vida intensamente, à grande e à francesa — no sentido mais literal da expressão.

Em suma, esta obra apresenta-se como uma biografia de uma mulher que marcou um meio e uma época. Apesar de nunca ter ouvido falar dela, foi uma descoberta que valeu a pena.

🇬🇧 Many people may read this and be quick to label Kiki as a loose woman. In reality, she was someone deeply comfortable in her own skin — a woman who had no fear of undressing or using her body to her advantage. It doesn’t seem to me that she did so out of malice; she was simply playing the hand she had been dealt. Life was not particularly kind to her, and while still underage, she was forced to rely on herself, doing whatever was necessary to survive.

She had a strong personality, firm in her convictions, and refused to be swayed by anything she didn’t believe in — even when it came at a cost. She had several lovers and, even when she claimed to love someone and be in a relationship, there always seemed to be room for others in her intimate life.

She gradually rose within the artistic world: starting as a sculpture model, moving on to painting, and eventually standing out in photography — the field in which she achieved the greatest recognition, largely through her connection with Man Ray. Along the way, she also took part in numerous cabaret performances.

Above all, she was a woman of the artistic scene who sought to live life to the fullest, in grand fashion — quite literally, the French way.

In short, this work presents itself as a biography of a woman who left her mark on both a milieu and an era. Despite never having heard of her before, discovering her was well worth it.
