🇵🇹 Aparentemente, Fanfulla é uma das obras de Hugo Pratt — autor conhecido sobretudo por Corto Maltese — que ficaram perdidas no tempo e que a Ala dos Livros fez questão de resgatar.

Sem saber praticamente nada sobre a obra, ao começar a ler as primeiras páginas veio-me imediatamente à cabeça um filme dos anos 80 chamado “Flesh and Blood”, ao ponto de ir pesquisar se Fanfulla teria servido de inspiração para o filme — o que, aparentemente, não aconteceu. Não é que as histórias sejam semelhantes, mas ambas decorrem na Itália renascentista do século XVI, com um tom bastante sujo e violento, e no centro encontramos um anti-herói carismático que é simultaneamente mercenário e um soldado exímio.

Tendo em conta que foi originalmente publicada no final dos anos 60, é sem dúvida uma obra bastante interessante. Para um trabalho com quase 60 anos, continua a ler-se surpreendentemente bem. Acompanhamos as aventuras de Fanfulla, um mercenário que adora a guerra, mas que ao mesmo tempo possui escrúpulos e vive em conflito com a sua própria natureza.

A obra é editada em formato horizontal e inclui uma luva que facilita a sua organização na estante — algo essencial (pelo menos para mim) em livros deste formato.

🇬🇧 Apparently, Fanfulla is one of Hugo Pratt’s works — an author best known for Corto Maltese — that was somewhat lost to time and which Ala dos Livros decided to rescue.

Knowing nothing about the work beforehand, as soon as I started reading the first pages an 80s film called “Flesh and Blood” immediately came to mind, to the point that I even looked up whether Fanfulla might have been an inspiration for the movie — which apparently it was not. It’s not that the stories are similar, but both take place in Renaissance Italy in the 16th century, with a rather dirty and violent tone, and at the centre we find a charismatic anti-hero who is both a mercenary and an exceptionally skilled soldier.

Considering that it was originally published in the late 1960s, it is without a doubt a very interesting work. For a book that is almost 60 years old, it still reads remarkably well. We follow the adventures of Fanfulla, a mercenary who loves war but who at the same time has scruples and lives in conflict with his own nature.

The book is published in a horizontal format and includes a slipcase to help with shelf organisation — something essential (at least for me) with books in this format.
