🇵🇹 Esta série está organizada em ciclos de dois volumes, pelo que este tomo assinala o final do primeiro ciclo narrativo. O volume abre de forma particularmente intensa, com uma breve mas impactante descrição dos horrores cometidos pelos nazis contra os judeus. Ainda hoje é perturbador ler estes relatos: é difícil conceber até onde o ser humano foi capaz de ir contra o seu semelhante — mulheres e crianças assassinadas a sangue-frio em valas comuns, numa verdadeira indústria de morte que, se não tivesse ocorrido de facto, pareceria saída dos romances mais sombrios de Orwell ou de H. P. Lovecraft.

Segue-se depois a continuação directa da história iniciada no primeiro volume, cujo desenvolvimento e desfecho me agradaram bastante, tanto pelo ritmo como pela forma como encerra este arco inicial. Fico agora curioso em relação aos próximos ciclos e, sobretudo, em perceber se existirá alguma ligação temática ou narrativa entre eles.

🇬🇧 This series is structured into two-volume cycles, so this book marks the end of the first narrative cycle. The volume opens in a particularly powerful way, with a brief but striking account of the horrors committed by the Nazis against the Jews. Even today, it is deeply unsettling to read these accounts: it is hard to grasp how far human beings were capable of going against one another — women and children murdered in cold blood in mass graves, within a true industry of death that, had it not actually happened, would seem to come straight out of the darkest novels of Orwell or H. P. Lovecraft.

This is followed by the direct continuation of the story begun in the first volume, whose development and conclusion I greatly appreciated, both for its pacing and for the way it brings this initial arc to a close. I am now curious about the next cycles, and above all to see whether there will be any thematic or narrative connection between them.
