🇵🇹 Esta leitura surpreendeu-me e acabou por superar todas as expectativas.

É uma forma fantástica de conhecer José Saramago, o nosso único Prémio Nobel da Literatura — e que história extraordinária é a dele. É incrível pensar que alguém que viria a ser distinguido com o maior galardão literário do mundo só começou a dedicar-se seriamente à escrita depois dos 50 anos. Se alguma vez houve prova de que nunca é tarde para recomeçar, é esta.

Também me agradou muito a simplicidade com que Saramago encara a vida e a profunda admiração que nutre pelo seu avô — um homem de natureza igualmente simples. Da minha experiência, as pessoas mais nobres são, muitas vezes, as mais humildes.

No final, fiquei com uma enorme vontade de poder conversar com Saramago sobre os mais variados temas da vida.

It’s a fantastic way to get to know José Saramago, our only Nobel Prize winner in Literature — and what an extraordinary life story he had. It’s incredible to think that someone who would later receive the highest literary honour in the world only began to take writing seriously after turning fifty. If there was ever proof that it’s never too late to start over, this is it.

I was also very taken by the simplicity with which Saramago approached life and by his deep admiration for his grandfather — a man of equally simple nature. From my experience, the noblest people are often the most humble ones.

In the end, I was left with a strong desire to have a conversation with Saramago about the many facets of life.
