🇵🇹 Uma desilusão, para ser honesto.

Nivek é um rapaz do Congo que, depois de sobreviver a um acidente nas minas, embarca numa jornada em busca da promessa de uma vida melhor. Gostei bastante do conceito deste livro, mas houve várias coisas que não funcionaram para mim.

O primeiro capítulo, passado no Congo, é sem dúvida o mais forte. Coloca a fasquia bem alta, retratando com grande intensidade as duras realidades enfrentadas pelas crianças na região.

Os capítulos seguintes acompanham a sua viagem para norte através de África—pela selva, savana e deserto. Foram os mais fracos para mim, especialmente o da savana, onde o livro começou a perder-me.

Os últimos capítulos, que abordam a chegada à Líbia e a perigosa travessia para a Europa, são bem mais impactantes, relembrando-nos a brutalidade da experiência dos imigrantes ilegais.

É um livro importante pelo tema que aborda, mas senti que a execução ficou aquém. Também é raro não gostar da arte, mas, neste caso, não me cativou—definitivamente não é a minha praia.

Ainda assim, acredito que esta é uma história que merece ser contada, mas é melhor abordá-la com expectativas moderadas.

🇬🇧 Kinda of a disappointment to be honest.

Nivek is a boy from Congo that after surviving an accident in the mines starts a journey into the promise of a better life. I really enjoyed the concept of this book but there are several things that didn’t work for me.

The first chapter in Congo is definitely the best one for me and it really puts the bar high. The contents on this chapter are really heavy showing very well the hard life for the children in Congo.

The next chapters show his travel North through Africa, through the Jungle, Savannah and the Desert. These are the worst chapters for me, specially the Savannah one, it’s here that the book loses me.

The last chapters of his arrival in Libia and crossing into Europe are much better and reminds us of the harsh reality illegal immigrants have to life.

It’s a very important book given its content but the execution felt short for me. It’s also very rare that I don’t like the art but I wasn’t particularly fan of this one. Definetely not my cup of tea.

All that said, I still think it’s an important book and an important story to tell but moderate your expectations.
