🇵🇹 Por mais que leia sobre o Holocausto, continua a ser um tema que me impressiona profundamente.

Ainda há quem dispute a existência do Holocausto ou questione o número de vítimas. E tudo bem, os números são inevitavelmente estimativas; não existe uma contagem exata de todos os mortos. Mas, no fundo, que importância tem isso? Torna menos horríveis aquelas fábricas da morte? Não. Claro que não.

Nesta obra, Matteo Mastragostino e Alessandro Ranghiasci trazem-nos a história de Primo Levi, um judeu italiano que, como tantos outros, acabou nos campos de concentração nazis. No seu caso, os conhecimentos de química e o domínio da língua alemã deram-lhe uma vantagem decisiva, permitindo-lhe destacar-se e aumentar as suas hipóteses de sobrevivência.

É uma obra simples, acessível e de leitura rápida, mas também profundamente importante. Um livro que deveria fazer parte das leituras essenciais nas nossas escolas, para que as novas gerações compreendam os horrores que os seus antepassados foram capazes de criar e para que nunca permitam que algo semelhante volte a acontecer.

There are still those who dispute the existence of the Holocaust or question the number of victims. And that’s fine; the figures are inevitably estimates, as there is no exact count of all those who died. But, ultimately, what difference does that make? Does it make those factories of death any less horrific? No. Of course not.

In this work, Matteo Mastragostino and Alessandro Ranghiasci bring us the story of Primo Levi, an Italian Jew who, like so many others, ended up in the Nazi concentration camps. In his case, his knowledge of chemistry and his command of the German language gave him a crucial advantage, allowing him to stand out and improve his chances of survival.
