🇵🇹 A pandemia de COVID-19 foi um momento surreal nas nossas vidas. Ainda hoje tudo me parece ficção — mas foi bem real. Um evento que só não foi pior graças às fortes medidas de mitigação, aos avanços tecnológicos na área da saúde e, claro, a todos os que estiveram na linha da frente a combater a pandemia. Verdadeiros heróis, pelos quais sinto profunda gratidão.

Neste livro, Guilherme de Sousa partilha connosco a sua experiência pessoal durante esse período.
A obra começa de forma marcante, com um excelente prefácio, seguido de uma página totalmente preta com a frase: “Baseado em uma história real.” Desde logo, instala-se o ambiente sombrio que acompanhará toda a narrativa.

Guilherme consegue contar a sua história de forma detalhada sem nunca se tornar maçador. Dei por mim a falar com ele mentalmente várias vezes, à medida que ia tomando consciência dos riscos que enfrentou ao longo desta jornada.

Apesar do tema sério, o autor intercala momentos de humor, até nas situações mais difíceis, o que torna a leitura mais leve e humana.

A história de Guilherme é incrível — e só dá vontade de ter este nível de talento narrativo para também conseguirmos contar as nossas próprias vivências com esta força e clareza.

No final, o autor preocupa-se em não parecer ingrato. Mas essa ideia nunca me passou pela cabeça. Guilherme é apenas alguém que foi colocado numa situação inédita e surreal, tentando lidar com ela da melhor forma possível. Só posso agradecer-lhe por partilhar connosco uma experiência tão pessoal e enriquecedora.

🇬🇧 The COVID-19 pandemic was a surreal moment in our lives. Even today, it all feels like fiction — but it was very real. It could have been much worse if not for the strong mitigation measures, technological advances in healthcare, and, of course, all those who were on the front lines fighting the pandemic. True heroes, to whom I’m deeply grateful.

In this book, Guilherme de Sousa shares his personal experience during that time.
The story begins powerfully, with an excellent preface, followed by a completely black page bearing the sentence: “Based on a true story.” Right away, it sets the dark tone that carries through the entire narrative.

Guilherme tells his story in a detailed and compelling way, without ever becoming tedious. I often found myself talking back to him in my head, as I realized the risks he faced throughout this journey.

Despite the serious subject matter, the author weaves in plenty of humour — even in the hardest moments — which helps make the reading experience more approachable and human.

Guilherme’s story is incredible — and it makes you wish you had his storytelling talent to share your own experiences with such clarity and power.

At the end, the author takes care to avoid sounding ungrateful. But I never felt that, not even for a moment. Guilherme is simply someone who was thrown into an unprecedented and surreal situation, trying to handle it the best way he could. I’m truly thankful for this personal and enriching account.
